It is 12:01 AM EDT on June 1st, 2012, and I’m doing Camp NaNo. I may be slightly insane to try this on top of my internship, but I do NaNoWriMo on top of a full class load every year, so this ought to be a piece of cake, right?
RIGHT?
That’s what I thought. Or what I hope. Who else is joining me this month? It’s definitely not too late to sign up (anytime in the next couple of days will be fine), and there’s another session in August if that’s more convenient. And then, of course, there’s National Novel Writing Month itself in November.
If you’ve never done any kind of monthlong writing project and want to give it a shot, you should try Camp NaNo, but you should definitely do NaNoWriMo proper. There’s just something amazing about the energy and insanity and intensity of knowing that hundreds of thousands of other people are setting out on this crazy quest with you.
But for now, we’re off to Camp! Join us!
And yes, I’m posting this video again. Because even after three years of this, it never, ever gets old to me.

AHHH, I’m doing it too and it’s driving me crazy ALREADY!! But then again, that’s how NaNo ALWAYS is, right?
Ah, (Camp) NaNoWriMo! So endearing in your exasperation-inducing ways!
(Also, Julia, can I make a confession? As I recall, you and I met at the WDC when I sat down across from you at a table and commented on your NaNo bag. In truth, I had seen you from across the room, spotted the bag, and thought, “Fellow young person and fellow Wrimo!” I then tailed you to that table with the intention of meeting you and chatting about NaNo. *sheepish grin* I felt pretty stalker-y about it, but hey, Wrimos and people under 30 should stick together at events like that! Plus we got to geek out together about Chris Baty being there.
Soooooo, yeah. Figured I’d mention that.)
Ahaha, don’t feel stalker-y about it. I’m glad I got to geek out about Chris Baty with you!
YES! HERE WE GO!!! *dances around* I brought marshmallows!
And I have chocolate! If Julia brings graham crackers, we can have s’mores!
Whoot, I’m in.
Best of luck!
I’m over with the Camp rebels – working on short stories instead of a 50k novel. My target is 8 2-3k shorts in June!
Woot for rebelliousness! Actually, I suspect my project could end up being a bit like yours—so far it’s being very resistant to the idea of organizing itself into chapters or one cohesive storyline, so maybe it’ll be a collection of vignettes? On verra.
Regardless, good luck!
Hey, I thought for a minute that it was Hero in that vid at 3:07. I am writing a book, but not on NaNo. I might do it for the second one I have in mind……dunno yet.
